5. Captain Canuck
Many people confuse Captain Canuck with the Alpha Flight leader Guardian, but this character pre-dates Alpha Flight. Rarely seen outside of Canada, due to limited budgets for the character, Captain Canuck premiered in 1975 from a printing company in my home town of Winnipeg. There have been several iterations of the characters over his almost 40 year history, and IDW collected many of the stories several years ago into a collection. Possibly due to costs (since these were all independently printed) some of the series never had major runs, it may be difficult to find a full back story of them all. But Captain Canuck is most definitely a character that will be familiar with Canadians (even if just by the use of the word “Canuck”).
