The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting a bit of a shake-up this week as Joe and Anthony Russo are set to direct Avengers: Infinity War. They will be stepping in to helm the film franchise after director and main continuity executor Joss Whedon, who will be departing after his latest contribution to the series, Avengers: Age of Ultron. This highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 blockbuster Avengers hits theaters everywhere May 1st and is touted to set the tone for the films to follow.

The Russo brothers came into the MCU with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will return for Captain America: Civil War, which begins shooting next month. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they plan to film Infinity War parts one and two in a single extended shoot beginning sometime in 2016. No writers have been announced yet, but expect to see Winter Soldier and Civil War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely return for the upcoming two-parter. These movies are looking at respective release dates of May 4, 2018, and May 3, 2019.
