Steve McNniven and Cullen Bunn have just released a teaser image for an upcoming project, entitled Marvel MU. Then, another teaser appeared emblazoned with the names Cullen Bunn and Greg Land. Rotating artists a la All-Star Batman?
What it is, at this point, is anyone’s guess.
So let’s do exactly that, lets talk about some of our prevailing theories and some potential answers to the “What is MU?” question.
Where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is shortened to MCU, it could be that MU stands for Marvel Universe and is an overarching title which encompasses the print version of the Marvel Comics universe.
The 2016 Webby award-winning application from the House of Ideas is called Marvel Unlimited or … MU. Could it tie in to that platform? Unlikely but the initials fit.
At 2016’s San Diego Comic Con, this image was shown by Marvel in Hall H, teasing of things to come in the spring of the upcoming year. “A house divided against itself cannot stand…“, quote from a famous 1858 speech by Abraham Lincoln. Perhaps this ties in to the top secret MU project and the fallout of Civil War II.
The last theory is about an ancient city somewhere off the coast of Hawai’i. The island is called MU. The island kingdom of Mu first appeared in 1948 in the first issue of Namora. At one point the Muvian navy attacked Atlantis and nearly found victory in the capture of both Namor and Namora. With Namor scheduled to regain his head and rise from his death in Squadron Supreme #2, could this MU project be tied in to his Marvel Now! return?

The project is currently slated to be released in January of 2017. In just one week, on Tuesday, September 6 at 6:45 p.m. ET. Marvel Comics has promised to reveal additional information about this project.
