X-men Arcade Game Comes To Home Consoles

Marvel Comics fulfilled the wishes of gamers and comic books readers alike when they announced that Konami will be releasing the classic 1992 ‘X-Men’ game as a downloadable title for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 gaming consoles during a panel at New York Comic Con earlier this year. The game is going to be released exactly as it was back in 1992 without any changes being made; which is a pleasing announcement for many fans after Konami ‘Remastered’ another arcade classic ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time’ last year to mixed reviews.
In this side-scrolling arcade style beat-em-up, players can choose one of six playable characters to go after Magneto to rescue Professor Xavier and Kitty Pryde. As many fans will remember, playable characters include Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler and Dazzler. Play from the busy streets of New York City all the way to Magneto’s Asteroid M to defeat the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Seth Lehman, Marvel’s VP of business and legal affairs, said…
“Just like with our comics, Marvel has a rich history of great video games, and we’re happy to play our part with Konami in reintroducing this classic to fans of all ages. Fans have been clamoring for ‘X-Men Arcade’ to hit consoles for 18 years now, and we’re confident they’ll definitely find this re-release was worth the wait. The game looks and plays exactly like we remember it—all without the added worries of being low on quarters when you’re closing in on Magneto.”
This re-release will feature drop-in-drop-out online multiplayer and will support up to six players. Kotaku reports that the game is due out on December 14th on the Playstation Network, and on December 15th on X-Box Live Arcade for $9.99/800 Microsoft Points.
