WonderCon 2013 – Valiant Comics Harbinger Wars Panel Round Up

David Gillette 04/01/2013 News, ZDONOTUSE

Valiant Comics made a splash at WonderCon with their panel on the Harbinger Wars, which is their first big crossover event and includes Bloodshot. There are spoilers included for the upcoming crossover event.

Their first big announcement at the Harbinger Wars panel was that Harbinger writer Joshua Dysart has signed an exclusive 2-year contract, making him their first exclusive writer. Having expressed an interest in staying on the series for up to 50 issues, this keeps Dysart with the title up until roughly issue 35 and doesn’t exclude him writing other titles for Valiant.

He also introduced the Project Rising Spirit strike force that will be introduced in the Harbinger Wars crossover, explaining them as being tortured into activation and forced to serve Rising Spirit against their will.

WonderCon 2013 Valiant Comics Harbinger Wars PanelIn another announcement about the Harbinger Wars crossover, Valiant provided details of the second issue known as the Harada Protocol, which is a reference to special program in Bloodshot that kicks in when he sees Harada. Completely unaware of this “programming”, it overrides Bloodshot, giving him new abilities designed to kill Harada. One of these is sending infectious nanites after Harada, which can kill him. Look for Bloodshot vomiting nanites in this issue. In other Bloodshot news, Barry Kitson is doing art for issue 10.

James Asmus, the new Quantum & Woody writer, talked about how the re-launch explains their origins and will cover them investigating their father’s death. Tom Fowler’s doing art on the series. There will be variant covers by Andrew Robinson and Marcos Martin.

WonderCon 2013 Valiant Comics Harbinger Wars PanelShadowman #0 comes out May 1st with Justin Jordan writing and Trevor Hairsine on art. The issue will tell the secret origin of Master Darque, which has never been covered. Variant covers will be by Dave Johnson, Khari Evans, and Lewis La Rosa.

Clayton Henry is doing art for Archer & Armstrong #0 which will tell the real story of Gilgamesh according to the Anna-Padda brothers. It also gives the origin of the Boon and the brothers’ journey in recovering it.

Perhaps the coolest news is Valiant putting out a mobile video game called Harbinger Wars – The Battle for Las Vegas. However, its release date hasn’t been announced because Apple is involved. It will be like a classic 8-bit video game with the first level played as Bloodshot.

Free Comic Book Day will have a Harbinger Wars special, and they are going to offer their titles in other languages starting with Portuguese.

Lastly, Valiant explained that eventually they would roll out all characters at some point  in response to fan questions about The Eternal Warrior and Rai. Being only 10 months back into the comic business, the company stressed that they are taking their time to roll out the full line the right way.

Look for all of these new developments in the coming weeks from Valiant.

I'm excited for Shadowman #0 for sure. Valiant is doing some pretty sweet stuff, but that title is definitely my favorite.

Too bad Patch Zirtcher's not on it. I really dig his art.

Oh. I didn't notice that. Yeah, that is too bad. Oh, well. It'll still be good.
