Not all webcomics have to have a deep, philosophical story or years of characterization and continuity to be a success. In fact, many webcomics don’t even have to make sense to garner a fanbase. Today, we’ll look at 5 webcomics that that view life differently from the rest of us, but manage to make us laugh regardless.
If you’re new to this, here’s the scoop: Each Wednesday we will showcase five indie web comics. Each will be categorized and will be judged by ART, STORY and APPEAL. This will give you an opportunity to support indie artists and the amazing work they do.

Comic: Perry Bible Fellowship
Story & Art: Nicholas Gurewitch
About: Beginning as a newspaper comic strip in the Syracuse University newspaper, The Daily Orange, The Perry Bible Fellowship stems from the unique mind of Nicholas Gurewitch. Touching on a wide range of subjects, from religion to sexuality, to violence and death, the punchlines of PBF always take a sudden turn from the expected, usually winding up in the surreal or morbid. Though the strip was created with a simple, childlike artistic style, PBF is anything. The Perry Bible Fellowship has garnered such a cult following that the strips have been collected and reprinted by Dark Horse Comics.

Comic: Left-Handed Toons
Story & Art:
About: “Wouldn’t it be fun to draw a whole bunch of cartoons using your non-dominant hand? Yes? That’s exactly what we thought. Besides, everyone knows that natural southpaws make the best alfredo pasta, investment decisions, and webcomics. Well, we can do that too! Despite our shared predilection to using the contrary appendage! Cartoons drawn by the left hand are just always funnier, right?”

Comic: Cyanide & Happiness
About: Usually dark, sometimes cynical, and often offensive, Cyanide & Happiness began as a teenagers attempt to keep himself entertained. After posting his crude comic strips on an internet forum, Explosm.net was born. Home to Cyanide & Happiness since 2004, Explosm features a rotating authorship of the webcomic that has garnered such a huge following, the creators are currently in talks with Comedy Central about creating a television show.

Comic: Doghouse Diaries
About: “Well, let’s see. There’s three of us last time we all sat down for a headcount (best 10 minute meeting ever by the way). There’s me Ray, then there’s Will and Raf. Two of us are related, but Will is taller than Raf who spent five dollars more than me on ice-cream. You do the math. If you see us at a party, we’re the three dudes in the back arguing about whether or not a light saber could stop an oncoming Mario fireball (in case you were wondering, oh yeah, it can), or if the lung capacity of a cheetah is greater than that of a house cat (we really have no idea).
The site itself is maintained by, I think it was…yup…I’m sure of it: magic. Most of our brainstorming sessions involve Will dangling Raf off of the balcony yelling, “THIS TIME I’M REALLY GONNA DO IT!”. He half did it once. As you can tell the site is fairly minimalistic. This is, sadly, because only Raf can draw, and he refuses to until his petition for February’s right to have the same number of days as other months becomes law. Thanks for the show of solidarity, Raf.
The name was Will’s idea, so you can blame him for it. Unless you like it, in which case send me an email saying so, and I’ll rub it in his face.”

Comic: SinfestStory & Art: Tatsuya Ishida
About: A guy who wants to sell his soul ,a girl who thinks she´s the center of the universe, the Heavenly Lord, the devil himself …a PIG,etc. What more could you ask for?
