Web Comics Wednesday! – HEROES

Web Comics Wednesday! – HEROES

Love it or hate it, the big two (DC and Marvel) are changing our childhood comics. On top of that, this economy sucks. If you’re like me, you don’t want to try something new that’ll end up being a waste of your hard earned cash. Well, I’ve got a FREE solution for you! Let’s call it a “supplement” to your new Wednesday comic loot.

Each Wednesday I will showcase five indie web comics. Each will be categorized and will be judged by ART, STORY and APPEAL (if it makes us want to come back for more). This will give you an opportunity to support indie artists and the amazing work they do.

This weeks Comics will explore HEROES. Without further ado, here are this week’s picks:

Comic: Tales of a Checkered ManTales of a Checkered Man
Writer & Artist:
Denver Brubaker
About: Tales of a Checkered Man is a love letter to masked mystery men, caped-crusaders, classic adventure pulps and traditional newspaper strips. It features a rather unorthodox character armed with the best of intentions and a bad case of acrophobia as he learns to become the hero he imagines himself to be. TOACM made its debut online on April 6th, 2010 and updates twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Stripped ComicsComic: Stripped Comics
Writer & Artist: Joel Poirier
About: Stripped Comics is an ambitious project: five webcomics by one artist with overlapping storylines that create a large, satirical superhero comic book world. Each episode is 8 pages long and new pages are posted 3 times a week, if not more more. The heroes have awesome names like: The Pigeon King, Mer-Lad, Sly-Borg, The Badger and Madam Trigger. The stories have a variety of themes, from tales of revenge to retribution and vigilante justice.

Supertown

Comic: Supertown
Writer & Artist: Paul Abbamondi
About: Supertown is a web comic about kids, superheroes, and the limitlessness of imagination. Will (Willpower) and Kyle (Kapture) have decided that their town needs saving, and that they are the two best candidates for the job. Many nefarious characters will try to get in their way. It’s very light-hearted, except for the sad stuff, like Will’s missing father, or the fact that many of the Supertown kids have trouble making friends.

Death Boy

Comic: Death Boy
Letterer: Ian Austin
Artist: Dan Butcher
About: It’s a loving parody of the dark/modern age of comics, focusing on a British guy with a foul mouth and no superpowers who starts as an awful supervillain and turns into a mediocre superhero.

——————————————————————————————————————————–

William Feist Paranormal Investigator
Writer: Vaughn Reynolds
Artist: Calvin Garcia
About: What happens when you’re the black sheep of the family who’s entrusted to protect the world? You open a paranormal investigation firm in New York and you drink. A lot.
