We here at Comic Booked have a wide variety of tastes, from movies, to comic books, to web comics. Today, we thought it would be fun to choose our favorite web comics and share them with you. Though these comics have no other theme besides being Staff Picks, we feel that each one is highly enjoyable.
If you’re new to this, here’s the scoop: Each Wednesday we will showcase five indie web comics. Each will be categorized and will be judged by ART, STORY and APPEAL. This will give you an opportunity to support indie artists and the amazing work they do.
This week’s comics are the Staff Picks. Without further ado, let’s GO!:
Story & Art: David Willis
Picked by: Jordamus Prime
About: Revolving around the life of Ethan, a toy-obsessed geek. In between searching for the newest toy to add to his prized collection, Ethan has to deal with his friends, his co-workers, and a barrage of annoying customers in the toy store at which he works. Full of quirky humor, snarky one-liners, and running gags that will make even the nerdiest of nerds laugh, Shortpacked! is a great little comic with amazing longevity.
Story & Art: Tim Buckley
Picked by: The Nerd
About: Ctrl+Alt+Del is a gaming-related webcomic and animated series written by Tim Buckley. Premiering on October 23, 2002, the comic’s focus has gradually shifted away from single strip gags towards longer story arcs and greater continuity through the use of video game references. Ctrl+Alt+Del currently is updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Comic: Loading Artist
Story & Art: Gregor Czaykowski
Picked by: Kyle Black
About: “Loading Artist is a webcomic loosely based on the life of an artist who wants to get better and get noticed. Updated every Monday (usually).
The webcomic is created entirely by me, Gregor Czaykowski. I am also an artist who wants to get better (purely coincidental) and I have always wanted to make a web comic so here it is.
If you are a millionaire investor and you are excited about the idea of paying me to create these comics full-time, please feel free to contact me. Also if you just want to say hi or something, that would be cool too.”
Comic: French Toast Comix
Story & Art: Becky Hawkins
Picked by: Skott of Fables
About: Becky Hawkins graduated from Indiana University in 2006 with a degree in oboe, saxophone, and clarinet. Her current “day job” is with a cruise ship show band, so she divides her time between Brooklyn, her native Pittsburgh, and the rest of the world.
