Top Ten Tuesday time! So when you’re killing off fan-favorite characters who have been around since the 1940s, it seems pretty brave to me as a lifelong reader and fan. But it also points out that, no matter how good said “death” was, aren’t there several other worthy characters to take a dirt nap? I mean, yeah, it’s sometimes used as a way to “clean house,” so to speak. And often times it irritates or even enrages fans more than it wins them over, but hey, it’s comics. And like it or not, death, speculation, and an awesome (or lame) return is part of the game. It’s what makes our favorite little hobby just so much fun to begin with, whether you admit it or not. And let’s face it: the New 52 makes it oh-so easy to off a few characters who didn’t quite translate into the “new” universe.
So here are my top ten:

I loved Jeff Lemire’s run on Animal Man, but I haven’t read it since. The Joker’s “Daughter”, ugh. That’s just lazy writing my friends. It’s like in old school video games where they couldn’t come up with a new enemy so they just changed the color palette of an existing one.
A good chunk of this is objectively wrong
I disagree with Steve Trevor – he’s become more multi-dimensional than in the previous DCU, mostly thanks to the JLA and ARGUS series. Whereas in the old U he was very 2-dimensional, they’ve kept the premise of the character the same but made him have more of a personality and involvement in the universe at large.
I’d also disagree with Black Canary. Team 7 can be forgotten, but I’m liking Birds of Prey. She gives the “senior” vibe to the team, and as a leader has recently stepped aside and let Batgirl take the reigns, knowing that she is not thinking as clearly. Christy Marx has done a great job of growing the character and, even though she’s not hanging off Ollie’s arm, I am liking her more as a stronger lead character in this series than her character in the previous U where (too often) she was always next to GA.
FUCK YOU! Fuck you straight to hell! I love Stargirl and her new focus! You can take Lois to hell with you though, screw her I like wonder Woman!
