Golden Apple Comics had once again offered some of those creators a place to take a break from the stress of guiding a major comic book relaunch by celebrating the success of this month-long transition into the DCnU. The New 52 Wrap Party allowed
them to check that relaunch responsibility at the door and just be a creator among fans for a few hours, and let me tell you, the fans came out in droves for this!
As usual, Golden Apple put on quite the party for the fans. There was food and drink aplenty, including massive pizzas to feed the massive crowd, with an excellent outdoor setup to keep the consumables from mixing tragically with all of the first and second print DC books that were brought out for the event. I’ve got to say, that last part alone made my night. I’m not always able to get the comic store on Wednesday, and these books have been selling out like crazy week after week. I’m so glad I was able to get my hands on Batgirl #1 at last!
Then, of course, there was the roster of creators in attendance. I’m not sure how they managed to land this stellar line-up, but two tables were set up for their guests of honor: Brian Buccellato (The Flash), Mike Costa
(Blackhawks), Bernard Chang (DC Universe Presents), Josh Fialkov (I, Vampire), Sterling Gates (Hawk and Dove), Adam Glass (Suicide Squad), Kyle Higgins (Nightwing, Deathstroke), and Scott Lobdell (Superboy, Teen Titans, Red Hood & the Outlaws). The big surprise, at least to me, was that Dan DiDio (O.M.A.C.) took time out of his busy schedule as co-publisher of DC Comics to meet the fans, sign his comic and even raffle off some prizes at the end of the night, like a complete set of the Wayne Casino chips handed out at San Diego Comic-Con and a New 52 hat signed by the relaunch’s biggest names.
All in all, it was a pretty exciting party for those of us who have been following the new DC Comics releases over the past month. If you need to get all caught up on the New 52 at this moment, have no fear! Comic Booked has you covered! Check out the reviews below:
