Thanos is widely regarded as one of the greatest villains in comic book history. He has provided a consistent nemesis for multiple Marvel super heroes since his debut in 1973 within the pages of Iron Man #55. IGN ranks him as number 47 in their countdown of the top 100 comic book villains.
Now, Thanos has a voice to go along with the physical portrayal fans were teased with at the end of The Avengers. Thanos will be voiced by Josh Brolin in the upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy and in future Avengers films.
Thanos was the image that left fans wondering what was next in this post-credits scene from The Avengers:
Brolin is no stranger to comic book movies or their fans. A veteran of Hollywood since he first appeared as older brother Brand in the cult-classic The Goonies, Brolin has enjoyed a successful and long film career. He recently appeared in Men In Black 3 and played the title role in Jonah Hex as well as his critically acclaimed work in No Country For Old Men Rumors had Brolin in line to play Batman in the upcoming Batman v Superman: The Dawn of Justice before the role was awarded to Ben Affleck.
The award-winning actor will bring a level of excellence to the role of Thanos. He seems a much more logical choice than the choice for Ultron, James Spader. Nothing against Spader, who’s career has been great in it’s own right, but critics are anxiously awaiting his arrival in the Marvel universe to see how well his style matches up.
Fans should temper some excitement where Thanos is concerned in the immediate future. Many feel that the character will only be involved in Guardians of the Galaxy on a minor level, simply getting fans and movie watchers familiar with the character for later installments of Marvel films. The groundwork is being laid for Thanos to take center stage for the third installment of Avengers.
What do you think of the casting? Will Brolin provide the perfect Thanos or was there a better choice out there? Tell us in the comments below.
