This week, DC Comics released Teen Titans #100; the very last issue of Teen Titans before the reboot. Starting in September, these characters have never met before. I know that the reboot is happening for a lot of reasons, but I just want to take a minute to say thank you to DC Comics for everything. It was great to grow up reading Tim, Conner and Bart starting way back in their solo series, moving on to Young Justice and then growing to become Teen Titans.

While the series have had many ‘main’ characters, the big three for the better part of the past two decades were Tim Drake (Robin/Red Robin), Conner Kent (Kon-El/Superboy) and Bart Allen (Impulse/Kid Flash/The Flash). Regardless of what happens with the reboot, these three characters will always be more to me than just drawings in a book or words on a page. I grew up alongside them and got the chance to be there for all of it. There were a lot of ups and plenty of downs on during their adventures. We got to see Bart surpass his own expectations by maturing and following in his grandfathers footsteps by taking up the mantle of The Flash. We got to watch Conner realize there is more to him than just the DNA that he’s cloned from. We even sadly got to watch Tim live through the ordeal of surviving his two best friends; having lost both Conner and Bart within a year of one another (no worries, this is comics! They got better). It’s been a long and amazing journey these past 15 years or so watching these three best friends become the heroes they were meant to be.

Reading some of these books during those strange teenage years really helped me to get through alot, and while I’m sad to see the characters I know and love reset back to the beginning, at the same time I’m actually really excited for it. While the versions I know will be gone, other young people will have the opportunity to experience these great characters all ‘new and fresh’ just like I did growing up. Maybe it’ll help them to get through whatever they need to get through in their life. I can honestly say that I don’t think I would be who I am today without having had Tim, Conner and Bart there beside me all those years.

So thank you DC Comics. Thank you for giving me and the rest of the fan base the chance to experience these characters for so long, and thank you for giving a whole new generation of fans the chance to grow up with these characters. They’ve been good to me, and I can’t wait to see what they can do for the next generation. It’s been a great ride, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Teen Titans Together.
