Lots of new comic book related TV news this week as DC Comics and Marvel continue their push for small screen series.
In DC Comics news, The Flash and Gotham have both been officially picked up for the fall. The Flash series is a spin-off of Arrow and will air on The CW. Meanwhile, the Batman prequel series, Gotham, which focuses on Jim Gordon and a child Bruce Wayne, will hit Fox. NBC is also getting involved with the DC comic universe by adding a Constantine series. In a joint DCVertigo effort, iZombie will also be coming to the small screen, joining The Flash and Arrow on The CW. For those unfamiliar with iZombie, it’s essentially about a zombie named Gwen Dylan who happens to also solve crimes. Interesting idea and certainly not as mainstream as Batman but we’ll see how it goes.
Marvel is also happy with a renewal for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Additionally, Agent Carter has officially been ordered. Agent Carter is expected to follow the events taking place after Captain America is lost over the ocean, back during World War II and will star Hayley Atwell, who starred as the same character in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Outside of normal TV stations, Netflix is also getting into the comic related fun on the Marvel side with Daredevil estimated for this winter plus several other Marvel hero series that are anticipated to meet up as The Defenders down the road.
It’s certainly an exciting landscape for comic book and superhero fans. Five DC Comics related series plus at least three Marvel and that doesn’t count any animated series out there.
