Halloween has come early this year, and the treat is Shadowman #11 from Valiant Comics!
If you ever have been to New Orleans you know how that town likes to party. So you can imagine they throw quite the Halloween party down there. From the guest creative team of Jim Zub (Skullkickers) and Miguel Sepulveda (Red Lanterns) comes this fun tale of All Hallow’s Eve and demons looking for fun in the Big Easy.
The Halloween theme is a natural fit for Shadowman. Start with some drunk frat boys and a couple of troublemaking supernatural baddies all on the prowl for a good time, in a city full of inebriated revelers add one paranormal expert(Dr. Mirage) playing Grand Marshall to the bacchanalia and a tired and down on his luck would be mystical superhero (Shadowman) just back from the Deadside after stopping an unimaginable horror from escaping into our world.
Valiant has been focusing on making their books very new reader accessible. This stand alone tale is great for new readers. Jim Zub steps into writing this issue of Shadowman, and it’s hard to believe he hasn’t been writing this book all along. Artist Miguel Sepulveda (along with Colorist Brian Reber) has captured the feel of the real New Orleans. The sites of wild night in the French Quarter seem almost mundane alongside monstrous mosquito men, giant pugs and scythe wielding superheroes.
Some may find the book’s tone a little light. This story is more Buffy the Vampire Slayer than American Horror Story. But it’s juxtaposition of humor to the horror in that makes this such a enjoyable read.
Shadowman#11 is just a fun comic. Treat yourself to it.
As a bonus, there is a special Halloween Mask cover available (see below) so you to can go trick-or-treating with all the powers of the Shadowman.
