It was only a matter of time before Marvel Studios would introduce an animated feature through their parent company Disney and Disney Animation.  That initial movie, Big Hero 6, will arrive in theaters in November 2014.  Disney finally gave us a first look recently.

Big Hero 6 The movie has already had some fanfare surrounding it.  With stars like Samuel L. Jackson and Maya Rudolph, the latter of Saturday Night Live fame, already on board as voices, it is easy to see why.  Pair that star power with director Chris Williams and writer Don Hall and the studio has a solid recipe for success.  Hall brings Disney expertise from his work on Winnie the Pooh, The Emperor’s New Groove, Meet the Robinsons, and Tarzan, to name a few.  Williams, meanwhile, made his name with the release of Bolt, a story about a dog from a sci-fi show that thinks his powers are real.

Big Hero 6 was a subscript of early Alpha Flight comics that caught enough attention for Marvel to produce a stand-alone series.  They were awarded their own six-issue miniseries that began it’s run in the fall of 2008.

The movie seems to center around Hiro Hamada and his creation, Baymax.  Ultimately, his conversion of Baymax from a science project to a armor-clad superhero leads to the formation of a team to save San Fransokyo.  The team of superheroes forms from a group of genius kids that are transformed into high-tech heroes.

Disney has released the first trailer for the movie, showcasing the fun side that one would expect from the animation giant.  We get our first look at Baymax outside of the suit as well as a funny look at how he fits inside the suit Hiro creates.

Fans should note that, despite being a joint venture of Marvel and Disney Animation, Big Hero 6 will not take place in the same cinematic universe as the other Marvel properties.  Put those dreams of  seeing Baymax swooping in on The Avengers to bed, fans, it won’t be happening anytime soon.
