According to Variety, executive producer and director (and possibly star?) Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be working very closely with Sandman creator Neil Gaiman and screenwriter David S. Goyer to produce The Sandman, a potentially groundbreaking movie experience. Gordon-Levitt hinted that the difficulty in adapting such a masterpiece lies not only with working to stay true to the source material, but acknowledging that it is such a wide mythos. The original comic series ran for 75 issues, all of which were penned by Gaiman, a New York Times best-selling author and comic book legend.
So what do you think of the news? Will Goyer add the necessary love for superheroes to make this a winner? Do you think Christopher Nolan and/or Zack Snyder will enter the playing field as additional producers? Is Gordon-Levitt the right guy for the job? And most importantly, how many movies do you think they’ll make? We welcome your comments below, but know this: as a lifelong DC fanatic and Gaiman aficionado, I am pumped beyond belief to see the Endless in all of their cinematic glory! (Not to mention that I really hope they get Cillian Murphy to do his obligatory Scarecrow cameo if they do a straight adaptation of the first storyline.)
