“KRYPTON is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe. In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”            — NBC UNIVERSAL

“Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.”                — KRYPTON SYNOPSIS

So you must be wondering: “Jesse – why are you quoting this? What are you trying to tell us?”  The answer, my friends is blowin’ in the wind of latest news from NBC and Executive Producer David Goyer.

The answer is that the SyFy channel has ordered a prequel pilot television show to the Superman movies.  The long awaited, long-rumored drama Krypton now has an official pilot order.  The television show will be set approximately two hundred years before the events that occurred in the 2013 movie Man of Steel which starred Henry Cavill and directed by the now-infamous Zack Snyder.

This television show will be be written by David Goyer (who was also the Executive Producer for Man of Steel) and Ian Goldberg.  Scottish Director Colm McCarthy  is on board for the project. He is best known for his work on Sherlock, Ripper Street and Peaky Blinders.

This is certainly interesting and I must say I am rather interested in the goings-on of Krypton in the DC Entertainment Universe.  It also seems like this may loosely tie to DC’s movie universe, a slight departure from their disconnected and multi-versal approach to the big and small screens thus far.

While it is still early, and with many shows ordered for a pilot but not making to a full season one, we still have much to learn before we set our expectations.  What we can say however is that this green-lit prequel is indeed exciting news and, assuming it is well done, will be an exciting entry and addition to the Superman and DC Universe mythology.
