There are a lot of different ways to approach a documentary with the intense magnitude of Superhero Nation. Director and Creator Ian Fischer does this by asking my all-time favorite and most often asked question, “why?”.
It’s a good question, isn’t it? We are after all a nation clearly obsessed with Superheroes. We all have that story of our first inspirations to bring forth our capes and fierce weaponry as we flitted “dangerously” about our backyards and bedrooms. Oh, how we’d battle through those invisible foes, celebrating our jubilant triumph as we were called back to reality for dinner. Of course, we would have much rather just kept playing even until well into the night, and who could blame us? After all, sheets do make such great capes.
Superhero Nation is all too aware of this pure truth within us, and strives to go deeper, strives to understand this deep affection of ours for masked vigilance and chivalry. Yes. Superhero Nation strives to understand the fullness of why we as a nation truly love Superheroes. A love, that seeps down into every last one of us, starting with Ian Fischer himself.
To unravel the true depths of this mystery, Fischer set out across the Nation to find the best in the fields of Arts and Entertainment and get their thoughts on what this all means to them. From the Comic Book Scene to their vibrant translators in the big bright world of Cinema, Ian Fischer finds them, interviews them, and accumulates the knowledge in an effort to further understand the depth of our National Comic Love.
Fischer feels that “the Superhero obviously touches a deep chord in the human psyche” and truly wonders if it’s “a combination of wish-fulfillment, the collective unconscious, religious beliefs or something other that appeals to our human need to understand ourselves”. Yes. Ian Fischer feels a clear passion for his work that is sure to translate into this journey before him, painting the very feel of Superhero Nation with a familiarity that should feel warm and welcoming to every last one of us should this dream of Fischer’s finally come to fruition.
After all, when it comes to Superheroes, we really do all feel this same love as a Nation. Yes. Right down to our very own Superheroes. – N

I would have to agree that this issue runs very deep within humanity. It also has to do with ancient myth and ancient truth that has become myth. Look to the movie “Unbreakable” for this part of it.
The other part is that the gods we believe in and have believed in are represented by these super beings (even the Catholic saints of different things). We see this in Earth X.
It’s true. It’s something both primal and spiritual that both sides of our Nation, rather left or right, can find unity in.
Love the piece. I really like the idea of digging a bit deeper and exploring topics like this. Good work yet again!
Great! I can’t wait to share the interview with you guys tomorrow.
