Sundance Embraces Kill Shakespeare!

Great news for the creators of Kill Shakespeare, they have been accepted into the prestigious Sundance Story Lab. Creators Anthony Del Col and Conor McCreery, the makers of the 12 issue series Kill Shakespeare, are one of six teams chosen from around the globe to take part in the Sundance Institute New Frontier Story Lab. This new program from Sundance pairs the creators with creative advisers who will work with them to bring Kill Shakespeare to film and other media formats, through story sessions and conversations about key artistic and technology issues. This is a very cover of Killing Shakespeare #1exciting program that I definitely want to learn more about. The creators will discuss their invitation to this program, which runs from October 23rd to the 28th in Park City UT, during the New York Comic Con.

“We are really excited about becoming ‘Sundance kids’,” says Del Col.  “If Shakespeare was alive today he would be creating not only stage plays but films, video games, comic books and digital media.  We relish the opportunity to work with Sundance to further mash-up our take on the Bard with access to top screenwriters, video game designers and transmedia gurus.”

The creators will also discuss their new trade paperback  Kill Shakespeare Volume 2: The Blast of War. This book will round out the series with issues 7-12. The first book, Kill Shakespeare Volume 1: A Sea of Trouble, compiles issues 1-6 and is in it’s third printing. Volume 2 will be released in early November and the duo along with the artist of the series, Andy Belanger, will be selling and signing a limited number of copies at the NYCC at their booth #2844.

The series is an adventure story that pits all of Shakespeare’s greatest heroes from Hamlet to Juliet, against the most dangerous of villains from Richard III to Lady Macbeth, in a quest to hunt down and either kill or save a wizard named William Shakespeare. The series was nominated for a 2011 Harvey Award for best new comic series. New York Times describes it as “gripping, violent and dark fun.”
