This Saturday’s question: What is your favorite comic creator meltdown?
Was Tony Harris and his “fake nerd girls” rant enough to make you tear up all your Starman comics? Do you think the way Rob Liefeld so publicly fought with Scott Snyder on Twitter after being fired from DC just confirmed that he deserved to go? Was Chuck Austen’s angry blog enough to justify his departure as longtime X-Men writer at Marvel? Do you stick to the classic crazies like Alan Moore and Frank Miller when you need your daily dose of comic drama? When Dan Slott started getting death threats for his treatment of the character Spider-Man, did he maybe earn a few harsh remarks when he compared himself to Stan and Jack? Or do you just ignore all of the “behind the pages” drama and enjoy your funnybooks as they are?
So go forth and debate! But be sure to back up your responses. Don’t be scared. And don’t give up. After all, no one likes a quitter. And you’re not a quitter, are you?
Jeff, help me out here. When did I draw a comparison to myself with Stan & Jack? That does NOT sound like me at all. For example, I'm frequently correcting others in person and online whenever they try to call me "Dan the Man", because– as I always say– there is only ONE "The Man" in comics, and that is STAN.
What was the context? Do you have a direct quote?
I tend to not pay attention to much of the drama.
Rob Liefeld going off on nearly everyone just solidified my opinion of a punk who became one of the industry's biggest stars but never actually earned his place…
The Dan Slott death threat thing was pathetic and gave comics fans a bad name. As for Slott comparing himself to Lee and Kirby, well, I've said myself that Amazing Spider-Man became more fun and like the series was when it started with Slott's issues of Brand New Day. Big Time was like it as well.
But, overall, I try not to pay attention to the views and opinions of creators unless they do something stupid like injecting their politics in their stories
I thought Liefeld quit. Knowing a few things about how DC operates, which is becoming more apparent by the day with the problems they keep having with editorial and writers, Liefeld may have been justified in his feelings, but his douchy dramatics didn't earn him any sympathy. Meltdowns in comics pretty much suck.
I tend to agree with you, Skott. It sure is fun to watch them destroy their fanbases sometimes, though!
I think his was a new level of low. It just showed how silly he really was, in my opinion. Quitting and being allowed to quit are fine lines, and I think he proved that he was given an out that he didn't particularly like.

Let's face it, Image crap. The art, characters and stories were crap, especially the art and characters besides Spawn. Someone that has done a lot more research then I can be found here. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-b…
Liefeld's work is what turned me off of comics. Themes in Spider-Man and X-Men spoke to the outcast in me. The speculator boom in the 90's is the only reason Image comics printed anything past early Spawn books.
I try to avoid behind the scenes but twitter makes that pretty hard these days lol

I wouldn't say that all Image is crap. That's like saying all of Marvel or all of DC is crap (or gold, for that matter). That's just my opinion, though. Thanks for sharing the link!
To be fair, I think Liefeld's work turned a lot of people ON to comics. Unfortunately, those people don't buy comics anymore. I think the industry outgrew him… thankfully.
