Stephen Amell lands role as CW’s Green Arrow

Deadline Hollywood just reported that Stephen Amell has been cast as Green Arrow for the much anticipated CW superhero drama pilot “Arrow”.  Amell is not new to the tv game, he can been seen in other CW shows such as Vampire Diaries and 90210, or most recently in HBO’s Hung. Amell will be playing DC Comics character Oliver Queen or as he is more wildly known, Green Arrow, a vigilante hero fighting crime with his archery, martial arts and cool technology. While he walks among us under the secret identity of a wealthy playboy who has become an outspoken politician in Star City. A little testament to him being able to handle this roll might come with the news that he was among the finalists to replace Andy Whitfield as the lead on Spartacus.

This new CW pilot will be directed by David Nutter and written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.   Unfortunately this means it is officially confirmed that there will be no Justin Hartley, formally Green Arrow in the CW Smallville. I too will be shedding a tear over this, yet I do have high hopes that the CW can take the successful formula they created with the ten year running Smallville series and recreate another powerhouse superhero show.

What are your thoughts on Stephen Amell playing Green Arrow? Do you think he is up for the task? Let us know in the comments and keep checking back with Comic Booked for your up to date DC news.

    1. I think Justin Hartley would have been a better choice but I will give this guy a chance.

    2. I think this guy could work if they’re following the angle that New 52 Green Arrow is taking!

    3. If they follow the smallville formula, and set this green arrow in the same continuity with black canary and other super heroes, then yes, it will be awesomes….if not, if green arrows the only hero, then nope. i for one will boycott it. both warner bros. & DC need to get on board with the shared universe its comics have, in live action films & tv series…
