Star Wars Countdown

Comic Booked Guest Writer 04/30/2011 Features

I can remember the first comic book I ever got. It was the oversized Marvel Special edition of Star Wars. It was always in the safest place I knew, the backseat of my grandfather’s car. I used it as a floor mat.  I can vaguely remember getting into the car rather quickly to get out of the drenching rain. My feet rested on the comic book. This is my earliest memory of owning my own comic book. This is probably also why years later I walked into a 7-11 and bought the first book that started my collection. That first I still have, the Star Wars book I do not.

It is probably safe to say my love for comic books is only rivaled by my love for Star Wars. I primarily collect only comic books. My weekly books are nominal compared to my CGC graded comic book purchases. I stopped collecting Star Wars action figures a few years ago. Space grew limited and the prices of action figures started to jump too high. I still look for bargains, or that one Star Wars item that I must have, and when I heard the Blue-Ray discs would be released in September, well let’s just say I plan on having a marathon. Who needs work or sleep for a day?

I was at work when I decided to check my e-mail, something I am not supposed to do, but it was slow. I looked at the e-mails from my fellow contributors, from e-bay letting me know an auction on a comic book I wanted was ending, some spam, and a few Facebook notifications. One was from I tried reading it on my phone but the only thing it really said was “All will be revealed May 4th” they also had a blue-ray disc insignia. Are they pushing up the release for the Blue-Ray’s? Is that live action show they were talking about coming out? Is another movie in the works along the lines of “Vector Prime”? I don’t know. Could I get out of work early and go home to jump online and try to find out more?

When I finally got home I turned my computer on, made some coffee and jumped online.  I accessed my e-mail and hit the link to the Star Wars website and the only thing I saw was a clock ticking down, but ticking down to what? It looks like I will just have to wait until May 4th and wonder if I will be insane enough to watch the final minutes give way to whatever news they wish to reveal. Or, should I just wait for another e-mail and read what everyone will know May 4th 2011?

Thanks for reading

We wait for May the Fourth every year, don't we? May the Fourth be with you. (Oddly enough my father's birthday, so I have been doing that joke for over 20 years now)

My first comic I bought for myself was Marvel's Star Wars #66. I had been given issues occasionally, but that's when I first started buying comics on my own.

Wow marvel special edition Star Wars – I had that; and I trashed mine too.

As for what's coming tomorrow? My LCS guy is a SWars geek too – and he isn't saying anything, so I think I'll have to wait and see.

Didn't know about this. but I am all about whatever this is and I'm only a marginal fan!

I wasn't old enough to be into the Star Wars comics. I'm pretty sure my first comic was GI Joe #45, with Zartan on the cover. It was that, or Transformers #17, with that smelting pool story on Cybertron.
