Sony and Robot Chicken bring us “The Break-room”

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
It’s November, which means in the eyes of games developers eager to push their wares it’s essentially Christmas and everyone knows that Christmas means shiny new games! In what is undoubtedly one of the first of the many attempts from Sony to empty our pockets this holiday season comes this new promo for ‘PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’ entitled ‘The Break-room’.

Sony has teamed up with the folks from Robot Chicken to deliver this hilarious promo for the crossover fighting game which, let’s be honest here, looks suspiciously like Super Smash Brothers with PlayStation characters. Cynicism aside, the game and the video both look great.

‘PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’ hit shelves on Wednesday last week and has been hitting the right notes with both critics and regular gamers.  Although on the surface the game looks like a direct rip-off of Nintendo’s infallible Super Smash Brothers, there are some distinct and game changing differences in the combat system and gameplay style… not that the video highlights any of this!

The emphasis here is very much on a sense of haphazard fun and, of course, showcasing the various playable characters.  It would also seem Sony is trying very hard to buy in to the pop-culture-loving 20-30-year-old demographic with the incorporation of Robot Chicken. After watching the video a couple of times I have to admit: it’s working!

Well played, Sony, well played.

‘The Break-room’ features iconic PlayStation exclusive characters such as Jak, Nathan Drake, Kratos, and Sack Boy, most of which are voiced by Seth Green. Giving us an ‘exclusive’ look into what happens between battles, the video pokes a surprising amount of fun at the game’s core concept and certainly kept me chuckling.

What did you think of ‘The Break-room’?

Did you like it or hate it?

Most importantly does it make you want to actually go out and buy ‘PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’?
