They seem to be sentimental at heart over at Bioware, as the demo for Mass Effect 3 embraces PC, XBox and PS3 on February 14.
Let’s be honest – the ComicBooked team had to engage in a lover’s quarrel to snag the rights to review and preview this game. It was messy, folks. There were tears (Sorry, Jorgie!). Someone’s gaming heritage came into question (yes, I used to play Bubsy the Bobcat – so shoot me), and I think there was espionage and the threat of an online Street Fighter tournament.
To save the lads from the esteem-shattering defeat at the hands of my supreme Juri skills, we decided it was probably best to share the duties of paramour so that we could all boast the beauty and finesse of this game across the three gaming systems.
Thankfully, Bioware has been kind enough to share the love equally, and all of the systems will have access to this demo on February 14. The demo is based on the introductory level of the game, set on our very own ‘la terre’ Earth, where Shepard is engaged in a battle with the Reapers. The opening level will allow players to ready their skills and also invite others along through the new co-op multiplayer mode.
And for those XBox users who want to try their hand at pronouncing sweet words or feeling their way through the gameplay – yes, the Kinect functionality will be available for this demo as well, which I am sure Josh will enjoy and comment on through his XBox coverage of the release.
For those who are Kinect-curious, or simply want more details about the upcoming demo, you can have a look at Bioware’s blog in the meantime for further information.

Still haven’t played Mass Effect….but I loved Dragon Age and I like what I’m hearing about Old Republic – Bioware are very good at creating a sense of engagement with their material.
I’ve hearted Bioware ever since Neverwinter Nights, Emmet. I like it that it gears more towards a “role-playing game”, where you make ethical/ideal choices regarding your actions. Of course, some people just go all-out good or evil for their amusement, but I like considering the options a bit more than that.
I bought the first two during a Steam sale. Still haven’t made much progress. I should probably fix that.
If this is free, does it mean I am OBLIGATED to play it? I hate getting into new series. Yes, I’m like a crotchety old man.
Played the first one, and the very beginning of the second then just..stopped.
So excited for this. The Mass Effect series has been one of the defining entertainment experiences of this generation for me. I need to add you to my PSN btw.
As more of a console gamer, I really only picked up on it in Mass Effect 2. However, I have recently gone back and bought the first game for my PC for me to pick at along the way.
