Disney has always been known to do things that are very out of the ordinary. Trading a human for a cartoon character is Disney’s most recent abnormal trade, but Disney seems to think it will pay off huge! The classic but oft forgotten Disney character Oswald The Rabbit is making a comeback in Epic Mickey 2: the Power of 2. The story of Oswald, who will be appearing as a teammate in Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2 after making an appearance in the first installment of Epic Mickey, is a rather interesting one. When he showed up in the first Epic Mickey, so few people actually realized the significance of the historical figure. Oswald was one of the first successful Walt Disney creations around the late 1920’s, he was the Mickey Mouse of that time frame. Long story short, Oswald was the first real learning lesson for Disney, as contract holders’ had a clause making Oswald the company’s character and not Disney’s. This sparked a resurgence of creativity and gave the House of Mouse the emotional back story that drives people to create something incredible.
Oswald will return to the Epic Mickey universe, but this time around Oswald will be Mickey’s partner. The game will incorporate all the things that made Oswald such a lovable and interesting character such as his ability to remove his limbs, using his ears as a helicopter or boat rudders. Oswald will also officially be officially named as Mickey’s half brother. Both characters will be playable, making Epic Mickey 2 the first game in which Mickey and Oswald are both on the same team and able to be played simultaneously. Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is set to be released in late 2012 and is set to be released on all game playing stations, unlike Epic Mickey which was exclusively released on the Nintendo Wii.
