SDCC 2012: Mattel’s Ghostbusters Line Up

Michael Wirth 07/13/2012 Reviews

It really is quite amazing that a movie made almost 30 years ago still has a rabid and devoted fanbase. Yet Ghostbusters has managed to entrance millions of people and remains one of the most remembered, and quoted, movies of all time. Given this information, it’s no surprise that Mattel has a line of action figures and collectibles in the works, which they have shown off at San Diego Comic-Con. If you aren’t at the Con, or if you just managed to miss it while you were there (for shame!), don’t worry. We got you covered.

The first figure we have is the courtroom ghost Tony Scoleri from the memorable scene in Ghostbusters 2.

But have no fear, because Ray Stanz is on the scene! Courtroom Ray is the final 6 inch figure to be announced for 2012 and will likely go on sale mid-November.

Mattel always seems to offer spectacular exclusives each year for SDCC, and this year is no different. The cool swag for 2012 is the Dana Barrett/Zuul figure. What makes this toy so great is that it includes everything need to complete pose Zuul however you’d like, whether that be standing seductively or lying seductively. According to the MattyCollector.com website, the figure will be available to order on July 23, but that big red “Sold Out” message makes me a little nervous. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’s available after SDCC.

However, these aren’t the only toys that Mattel revealed. One of their most unexpected, and coolest, announcements was a replica of the Ecto Googles.

Used to spot ectoplasmic residue left behind by ghouls, ghosts, and phantoms, the Ecto Goggles help the Ghostbusters track the movements of ghosts. And guess what? So do these! According to the spec sheet of the con, the goggles “project an animation of Slimer on the inside”. The goggles also sync with the PKE Meter, a pairing that actually affects the speed and movement of Slimer. The goggles are expected to be released in Q1 of 2013.

Thanks to Ghostbusters of Southern California for snapping these pics.
