Again please watch the video above for a much better review and breakdown of Pretty Deadly. This issue took us by surprise. We didn’t know what to expect from this series being that we knew nothing about it except for the fact this is Kelly Sue DeConnick’s first creator owned series. We love Kelly Sue DeConnick and her work from Avengers Assemble and Captain Marvel, her style is solid enough for us to blindly give this series a chance. We are very glad we did.
This issue stands out amongst other comics we read this week because of its unique premise, great art, mix of western and fantasy, and also it’s eerie tone. Not going to lie, it took about 2 to 3 read throughs to really understand what the heck is happening, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! Each time we read through it we caught something new, which was both exciting and fulfilling.
The format is also unique because it is done in the style of a narrative, but the narrators are a rabbit and a butterfly… yeah just hang it there it gets weirder. Also, the lyrical style of dialogue was fairly confusing in a scene, but it made you have to slow down and actually work for the information. This issue was fantastic and we really can’t wait to see more!
- The unique premise is both intriguing and entertaining.
- The art fit the tone perfectly
- Lots of re-read value
- We cannot wait for more!
- The story is confusing first read through.
- That’s it.
This issue is really good, the story is great and the premise is unique. We are for sure going to follow this series and we hope you do to. If you’re on the fence then give it a shot because it us a solid issue. And please watch our video and subscribe! http://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&ns=1&video_id=W3esrmgN0MQ
