Regenesis: X-Men Line-Up Revealed

x-men-regenesis-countdown_03
Marvel has been slowly revealing their line-ups of the post-Schism X-Men teams over the last two weeks. Today marks the end of their reveal for both sides. Most of the more shocking revelations have already been made, like the Age of Apocalypse Nightcrawler joining X-Force, and Sebastian Shaw showing up in Generation Hope. The line-up is what one would expect if mutants were forced to choose sides, with a few exceptions.
Beast siding with Wolverine? That’s obvious. Beast and Cyclops had a falling out shortly after the events of Utopia. Having held the grudge throughout every appearance he’s had since then, it’s no surprise that, when the X-Men split, he would join Wolverine.

What is a surprise, however, is Wolverine’s acceptance of Quentin Quire on his team. Quire, who attacked the attendees of an international arms conference, is partially responsible for the events leading up to Schism (though the true blame falls on the Hellfire Club, the masterminds behind the entire ordeal). Wolverine blamed Quire for ruining mutantkind’s chance for peace and has threatened to kill him on more than one occasion. Is Wolverine siding with Quire to keep an eye on him, willing to follow through with his threats should he step out of line? This makes sense, but I suppose we’ll have to see.

It’s also strange to see Jubilee siding with Cyclops. For years, Wolverine has been Jubilee’s mentor, their bond forged after Jubilee saved Wolverine’s life from the Reavers. Indeed, he recently infiltrated a den of vampires to save Jubilee from the clutches of Dracula. So to see her stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Cyclops and not Wolverine is just odd.

The teams, as they are laid out here, will appear throughout all of the X-Books beginning in November. Schism was a huge gamble for Marvel, one that could have blown up in their face. As the newest evolution of the X-Teams, Regenesis needs to have some major power behind it. I’m hoping Marvel continues to make more hard choices like Schism with the X-Men. After all, that’s how memorable stories are made.

Why is it that Cyclops's side seems to be the one that is the one that has the highest chance of Blowing up (Until Cable returns in 2012)

  2. I'm extremely interested in the philosophy behind the different teams. I really hope it is true point in the stories that begin.
