Comic Booked Guest Writer 12/22/2011 Reviews No Comments

Thundering in on a powerful ebony steed with the cold steel of a sword in his hand, Conan is about to go berserk in Dark Horse Comics new Conan the Barbarian ongoing series!  The new creative team of writer Brian Wood and artist Becky Cloonan have put together a bigger, badder, and better barbarian book — ready to bust in to pillage your ale and women, brutalize and vanquish evil, and delight longtime fans and new readers alike.

Conan the Barbarian #1 begins the most-requested adaptation of fan-favorite, Robert E. Howard’s story “Queen of the Black Coast.”  Make no mistake, Conan is back in a big way.  But hey, don’t just take my word for it, check it out for yourselves — right here, right now.  That’s right, in an early Christmas present of sorts, the kind folks at Dark Horse have provided us with an awesome 8-page comic preview.  Behold the stylish art — a classic but modern take from superstar illustrator Becky Cloonan that is perfectly complimented by Dave Stewart’s work as colorist.  Dig Brian Wood’s breakneck pacing as the story opens.  Rejoice and give thanks to Dark Horse for getting to see all of this, well over a month before it hits shops!

Wow.  Ale drinking, capture, naked hangover jail vomiting, a horse chase, escape, exclamations of “CROM!” threats to spill the blood of a ship’s captain and entire crew, and vessel commandeering for the purpose of high-seas adventure – all in 8 pages!  I can’t wait to see what this team will do with a whole issue, not to mention an entire series.  Conan the Barbarian #1 is scheduled for release on February 7, 2012.  Check back in here at Comic Booked for future Dark Horse Comics and Conan news, as well as interviews with the Conan the Barbarian creative team.
