Preview – Chopper #2 from Asylum Press

Starring Tyler Mane and Andrew Bryniarski
Chopper from Asylum Press is only on it’s first issue of a planned five-issue mini-series, but it has already taken off in major ways. The first issue rated a “Certified Cool” rating in the August issue of the Previews catalog (the second issue following the trend in the current Previews).  For fans unfamiliar with Chopper, here’s a brief summary.

Written by Martin Shapiro with art by Juan FerreyraWritten by screenwriter Martin Shapiro and drawn by acclaimed Dark Horse artist Juan Ferreyra (Falling SkiesRex Mundi), Chopper is a modern-day reimagining of the headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow fame. In issue #2, Christina and her rowdy girlfriends go to the Daytona Bike Week motorcycle rally and sneak into a nightclub to see a heavy metal band. After taking a hit of the supernatural drug known as Stairway to Heaven, which opens your sixth sense and causes you to see ghosts, Christina and Trish encounter the ghostly Reaper, a headless Hell’s Angel on a chopper who collects the souls of sinners in the afterlife. Instead of being killed in your dreams like in Nightmare on Elm Street, victims are vulnerable while they’re high on the drug.

In addition to the critical acclaim the book is receiving, the series’ creators have produced a live-action web-series as a supplemental to the comic book, to introduce fans to the characters and the Chopper mythology in general. The web-series was not taken lightly, either, as if it were put together by some comic books geeks in their mother’s basement. The series stars Tyler Mane, who played Sabretooth in X-Men and Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s remake of Halloween, and Andrew Bryniarski, whose credits include Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Batman Returns.

[The web-series] will feature all-new prequel story material not in the comic book that will explore the origins of the Reaper and shine a light on the unknown pasts of several key characters.

The second issue of Chopper will be available in stores December 7, but the publisher has provided a 6-page preview for fans. And don’t forget to check out www.chopperlives.com for more info.
