Orange Is The New Black Makes Cast Changes For Season 3

Orange is the New Black Cast ChangesOrange is the New Black has been a runaway hit on Netflix.  So much so that the streaming service renewed the show for a third season prior to the sophomore season being made available to the public.  Indeed, times seem to be good for the show.

Jenji Kohan, the creator of the hit series Weeds, first brought Orange is the New Black to Netflix in 2013.  The story of Piper Chapman, having been convicted for drug smuggling, and her adventures behind bars quickly found a cult-level following.  Taylor Schilling plays Piper with impeccable form but it is the entirety of the highly-talented cast that sets the show apart.

Fans quickly flocked to the proverbial water cooler to discuss the antics of characters known primarily by nicknames.  Taystee, Red, Crazy Eyes, Pornstache and Pennsatucky were as interesting and entertaining as the main character.  Emmy and Golden Globe nominations followed as the cast gained more attention and popularity.

As with any successful show, success brings some change as well.  Academy Award winning actress Mary Steenburgen will join the cast for the third season.  Many fans will remember Steenburgen from her recent roles in Last Vegas and Stepbrothers as well as her recurring roles on 30 Rock, Justified, Wilfred and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Joining Steenbrugen in Orange is the New Black will be Blair Brown.  Brown has found her share of work on the small screen but is most remembered for her recent stint on Fringe.

The roles for both actresses have not yet been released.

Orange is the New Black is not just adding new actors, however.  Pablo Schreiber, who portrays George “Pornstache” Mendez has revealed that he will not return for the third season of the show.  Schreiber will star in HBO’s new comedy The Brink alongside Jack Black and Tim Robbins.  It appears that the shooting schedule for the two series will not allow Schreiber to remain with Orange is the New Black.

Fans of the show may see some growing pains in the third season.  It appears that Kohan has another hit on her hands despite the changes.
