At the New-Gen panel at NYCC on Saturday, Hamill joined Jeff Gomez from Starlight Runner Entertainment to introduce the series, discussing how the collaboration occurred. They also talked about the entire process of the series’ creation, from signing on with Marvel to the release of the graphic novel.
Hamill discussed his role as Creative Consultant on the franchise, explaining how he is drawn to the characters, the realism in the story, and the excitement of the team as a whole. “The New-Gen guys have the most amazing enthusiasm,” he said. “I’m very impressed. I’m looking forward to getting some of that Obi-Wan mojo now going for myself.”
While Star Wars comics have been in print for years, this is not Mark Hamill’s first foray into the comic book industry outside of George Lucas’ space epic. In 1996, Hamill created and co-wrote The Black Pearl, a five-issue limited series published by Dark Horse Comics.
The panel’s audience was treated to a New-Gen film reel, which included a preview of the latest comic, New Dawn. Though Hamill appeared in the film, much to the fans’ appreciation, his role in the series has not yet been revealed. However, under the guidance of Jeff Gomez, the New-Gen world has grown to spin off into TV, video games, toys, and so much more.
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more news concerning New-Gen and New Dawn. With Mark Hamill’s involvement, it’s sure to be a hit. But when you add a talented team like Gomez, the sky’s the limit. I can’t wait to see more coming from the New-Gen camp.
