There’s a lot of Batman news coming out of the DC All Access: Batman panel at the New York Comic Con. The Comic Booked team has eyes and ears everywhere, and we’ve got the scoop on the upcoming storylines in the Batverse.
Writer Scott Snyder on his upcoming story arcs on Batman:
“There is a solid throughline between classic DCU and the DCnU with Batman.”
“If we only had one story to tell, this is it.”
“Bruce is coming off of Batman Inc and discovers the Court of Owls, an ancient order of Gotham that might exist and might have ties to the Wanes or Graysons. It will tie deeply into the Bat Family.”
“Batman might not know Gotham as well as he thought he did, and the city might belong to the Owl and not the Bat.”
Artist Greg Capullo added, “Batman is more badass than ever.”
Our agents of Comic Booked reported that this series will focus on smaller stories with bigger, higher concepts. This is a different style of book…it’s a brutal and gritty, noire.
There’s a new villain in Detective Comics called “Dollmaker”, and his crew is comprised of a sexy nurse “Matilda”, a mechanical monkey, and Jack in the Box.
Writer and artist David Finch: “Pulling out all the stops. Expect to see Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash, and even the Legion of Doom headquarters. There are so many characters we wanted to include in this.”
“Characters come to Arkham and are infected against their will, making these familiar characters stronger, crazier, and out of control. They break out of Arkham and run amok in Gotham.”
Writer Peter Tomasi on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his son Damien: “It’s a lot of fun to take on the father/son with Damien and Bruce aspect as compared to the brother aspect of Damien and Dick. It’s a whole new dynamic and it’s a blast.”
Damien is trying to hold back on his violent tendencies to become a better Robin.
The new villain of this series is cryptically called “Nobody”. He ties into Batman’s past as well as Ducard’s, and he’s a formidable new foe who’s leading towards a massive battle in issue 7.
Writer Kyle Higgins is obviously very happy to be working on Nightwing: “Dick Grayson is my favorite character of all time, and is the reason I’m in comics!”
“He’s coming off of high times as Batman, and even with the relaunch and what’s going on, I wanted to use that to push this character further.”
Nightwing will be staying in Gotham for the foreseeable future.
“As Dick looks to the future, how will his past be used to try and break him?”
Artist Chris Burnham on future Batman Inc stories: “More coming! Rapping up old plotlines and leaving nothing abandoned. Not a lot can be said yet.”
That’s all the dirt we have on the Bat Family for now, but the agents of Comic Booked will be updating you as soon as they have more information (and internet connectivity). Stay tuned for more on upcoming Batman storylines.
