Do we love My Little Pony? Neigh… I mean, yeah! At least in my house the announcement of a new ongoing series from IDW Publishing will be met with a round of cheers from my young daughters. They have loved playing with the toys since before they understood that My Little Pony was the brand name and not just something they called their little pony.
Me: Dulcie, are you playing with My Little Pony.
Dulcinea: No, it’s my little pony.
Me: It’s called My Little Pony.
Dulcinea: No! It’s MINE!
Those were fun times. So, hearing about a new My Little Pony comic series, My Little Pony: Friends Forever, makes my kids happy and I know there are ponies and bronies alike out there that are also excited by the idea. Alex De Campi and Carla Speed McNeil are the creative for the first story arc featuring Pinky Pie and Apple Jack. This book looks to be a sort of team-up series for the ponies, where the main series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is the full group story and the micro series issues are more a focus on just one pony with each issue.
De Campi and McNeil are no strangers to the comic book industry, but their previous works, the Eisner-nominated Smoke and Kat and Mouse for De Campi and Queen and Country and Finder for McNeil, are different kinds of comics than what most pony lovers are used to, but if they are any indication of their talent, we are in for a treat.
