My Pick of The Week (Week One)

My Pick of the Week

Welcome to the New Year. Comicbooked.com has gone through some changes and I hope that you the reader have enjoyed them. New writers have come and old writers have gone. There are many other sources of information that you can go to get the knowledge you crave. If I must be honest some are better and some are a word I cannot use. What those sites do not have is the creative force we have put together that loves this hobby as fans and not a conglomerate.

I will be starting a weekly blog (for lack of a better word) to show my love for this hobby on Comicbooked.com. I will have this out every Friday and the first two are ready to go so please come back. During the next year I hope to inform, entertain, and ramble on about what I like and even dislike. My Pick of the Week will not necessarily be about books I enjoy; it also might be about books to avoid. So without further explanation I would like to discuss my first pick of the week. There will be spoilers.

Cover for Avengers: The Children's Crusade #8

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade is everything that made collecting comic books available to me, going so far as having a wonderful reference to the Beyonder and the Secret War, which I have already written a future article about for my upcoming Friday blog entries. It takes a lot to put together the art of the page and the pencils done by Jim Cheung compliment the inks and colors of Mark Morales, Lindsay, Cheung and Justin Ponsor with Paul Mounts. I know that seems like a lot of people to work on a book but each page screams for attention.

The story by Allan Heinberg has been fun and when you read what Wiccan has to say defending his mother, The Scarlet Witch, you think that if this universe were real that would be exactly the words an intelligent teenager might utter. Even though Doom becomes all powerful again, Allan refers to his time he absorbed the power of the Beyonder, and how that energy was nothing compare to the reality warping life essence power of Wanda Maximoff (I like the Beyonder being all powerful myself, nothing against Wanda).

By the end of the book, though, Doom is defeated by his own greed and I wonder with one issue left how it will end. A huge Avengers/X-Men battle is coming and was this series the true beginning of what is about to transpire. I am not going to give this book a scale of one to ten. It is over-used and redundant. Also forget about saying it is a must have. I will just tell you my feelings; I for one am glad I bought the series from issue number one and will buy it in trade. Who knows maybe I will even send some in to CGC to get graded and if this team is together for another series I guarantee I will buy that too.

This is my pick of the week. I liked it, you might like it too. If you pick this book up and you agree with me, come back next week and see what I have for you…oh and the runner up. Aquaman #4

Thanks for Reading
