May 2013 Solicitations: IDW Publishing

Skott Jimenez 02/18/2013 Reviews

Welcome to another week of random solicits from the fine publishers who give us the many fine comics we enjoy each and every month.

Last month we started with Marvel so this month I figured I’d mix things up a bit and begin with one of my personal favorite publishers: IDW, home to Doctors, Giant Robots, Monsters, and Martians, among others. But let’s take a look at some of the great titles they offer:

Godzilla #13 Godzilla
Duane Swierczynski (w) • Simon Gane (a) • Bob Eggleton, Frank (c)
The devastating conclusion to Swierczynski & Gane’s monster epic is here! Godzilla is battered and beaten but not down for the count… yet his most fearsome foe ever still stands before him! With the end of the world near, Boxer has one final decision to make: to kill or not kill Godzilla!
*2 regular covers will be shipped in a 9-to-1 ratio (9 Bob Eggleton, 1 Matt Frank)
FC • 32 pages • $3.99

The word ‘conclusion’ worries me here. It doesn’t actually say ‘final issue’ so I’m just going to assume this is the ending of Swierczynski and Gane’s first arc because this is a series I’ve really grown to enjoy. This series has used Godzilla in the way I always thought he should be used: as both part of and function of the story. Tie that into the totally sweet covers and you have a series that every Godzilla fan should enjoy. I’m hoping this is just the ending of one story and the beginning of the next! -Skott Jimenez

Transformers Regeneration One #91Transformers Regeneration One
Simon Furman (w) • Andrew Wildman (a) • Wildman, Guido Guidi (c)
THINGS FALL APART! The very fabric of the TRANSFORMERS’ universe begins to unravel, as huge and ancient cosmic forces take note of CYBERTRON’s (and the CYBERTRONIANS’) descent into chaos and anarchy. As HOT ROD struggles to hold things together, still reeling from his own game-changing wake-up call, competing destructive forces inch closer to a cataclysmic confrontation. The end begins here.
*2 regular covers will be shipped in a 1-to-1 ratio
FC • 32 pages • $3.99
Variant Covers: Geoff Senior variant cover!

Regeneration One… This is the series for old school fans and every issue shows those who think the Generation One ‘Formers, with their ‘outdated’ forms, just aren’t interesting anymore exactly how wrong they are. Every issue is like a doorway to the 80’s, a time many of us ‘old timers’ think upon fondly and, well, it’s just plain fun! And for those, like me, who prefer the entire old school package there are also the variant covers by Geoff Senior. Those are the ones I always get. -Skott Jimenez

Mars Attacks #10Mars AttacksMars Attacks
John Layman (w) • John McCrea (a & c)
The second story arc comes to a close as little Tommy Bailey and the Nova Viras continue their contributions to the war effort to devastating effect! See science and robot mayhem play out on a global scale! Don’t miss any of the action in this runaway hit series from John Layman and John McCrea!

Variant Covers:  variant Sam “Mister-Sam” Shearon cover!

Things are getting nuts in this series and I’m really hoping Layman is able to turn the dial-up even more and bring more Martian insanity to these pages! This current series features two covers, one comes with an all-new Mars Attacks trading card featuring the moments following the images depicted on certain cards from the original set while the other features the card as the cover itself just as IDW did with the first issue of this series. I’m happy with getting new Mars Attacks trading cards! -Skott Jimenez

And there you go, the books I’m most looking forward to from the fine folks at IDW. Of course, these aren’t the only books from IDW, they have many, many more great titles including Doctor Who, G.I. Joe, True Blood, a new Womanthology release, and more!
