Marvel reached a deal earlier this year to bring four television series to Netflix. The various series will all revolve around Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Heroes Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Daredevil will all be featured in individual stories. Finally, the four series will culminate in a mini-series event for The Defenders.
Charlie Cox will play Matt Murdock.
Murdock, the blind New York attorney, patrols the streets at night as Daredevil, the Man Without Fear, in the show simply titled Daredevil at this point. A superhero who’s other senses were heightened by the same accident that caused his loss of site, Daredevil performs under the idea that rules are needed to prevent people from behaving badly.
Marvel has been down the Daredevil road before. The 2003 movie, starring Ben Affleck in the title role, was anything but successful both critically and at the box office. The return to Hell’s Kitchen might be a bit risky for Marvel but the company seems to be doing a good job of bringing quality content forward consistently right now.
Daredevil is slated to lead off for the joint venture between Marvel and Netflix. There is no firm release date for any of the series are set at this point, simply a 2015 time frame. Meanwhile, Cox remains the only actor confirmed and Murdock the only character confirmed to date. The approach suggests plenty of crossover between the four shows. An anticipation of Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones appearances are not far-fetched. What villains will be featured, what other characters may be featured and what exactly we can expect from the series is still very up in the air.
As for now, the newest Man Without Fear at least has a face.
