Marvel Teases “Marvel of the Dead”

Nick Furious 02/25/2013 ZDONOTUSE

This isn’t the first time Marvel has gone the route of the undead.  Marvel Zombies was met with very positive reviews and even brought in new horror fans that didn’t realize horror even still existed in comics.  Perhaps Image Comics and Dark Horse are going to be more user friendly (don’t get it confused for Family Friendly) when it comes to horror but Marvel is about to step up their game.  This time around around acclaimed zombie/horror icon George A Romero will be headlining the series.  Shit just got real.  Here is the official press release:

MARVEL Of The Dead!

Coming Fall 2013.

I was excited about it until I saw Romero was involved. I'm sorry, and I know this goes against the grain, but if people were honest they would see Romero has overstayed his welcome. His zombie movies, post-Day, have been nothing more than the political rantings of an angry old hippie. He's bought into the false belief that, somehow, his zombie films are social commentaries. I honestly don't know where that started but it needs to stop. The dead coming back and eating the flesh of the living are not social commentaries regardless where the living are attacked.

Since he assaulted the world with the disgustingly bad Land Of The Dead we have had some zombies movies that remember their place and purpose. COLIN, a zombie film with a $75 dollar budget was light years better than EVERY zombie movie Romero made since Land… COMBINED.

If he can keep his petty politics out of this project and maybe go back and watch Night Of The Living Dead and remember what it was like when he was a filmmaker and not an aged hippie then, maybe, it will be exciting.

Personally… I'd rather have more Marvel Zombies. At least they were fun.

I agree. Romero movies are played out. Yeah, they were great at the time, but like you said, everything post Day of the Dead was just not good. So I guess this pretty much ensures that this "Marvel of the Dead" will have some tired old underlying political message that no one will bother to care about.

Thank God… I thought I was alone. Stand strong! We are THREE now!
