Today, Marvel announced a new Point One book, a standalone, 64-page one shot that will lay the groundwork for what readers can expect in 2012 across all of their titles. Featuring an all-star line-up of Marvel creators, both writers and artists, Point One is sure to appeal to every fan of the Marvel Universe.
“Point One is a massive one-shot of 64 all-new pages of story by the top creators in the business, setting the stage for the biggest stories coming in 2012. It is the starting point to what’s in store for the world’s most iconic characters and startling events. Point One serves as the launch pad for dynamic new series, the return of fan-demanded characters, and a shocking teaser that will have everyone talking. See how all it comes together in one gigantic epic!” – Tom Brevoort, Senior Vice President, Executive Editor
While Marvel isn’t really giving us much to go one, the press release featured art that clearly depicts Nova, a character who played a pivotal role in the Annihilation storyline a few years back and has recently been seen in the pages of Secret Avengers. While Nova is by no means an obscure character, the choice to emphasize him on the cover, as opposed to flagship characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, or Captain America, shows that Point One will be touching all aspects of the Marvel Universe, and not just covering the characters who already receive most of the spotlight.
With stories written by Marvel architects Brian Michael Bendis and Matt Fraction, as well as Fred Van Lente, Chris Yost and others, Point One is going to be a mammouth book. Point One also features art by Ed McGuinness, Ryan Stegman, Terry Dodson, Bryan Hitch and more, so, even if nothing else, we are guaranteed a book full of beautiful art with a huge range of styles.
Point One will hit shelves November 2.

It should also be pointed out that Nova, along with Starlord and Thanos, presumably died at the end of The Thanos Imperative when they were trapped in the 'Cancerverse,' left to fend for themselves.
If this does end up being Nova then I have to wonder if we'll be seeing Starlord and Thanos again…I would really love that!
I haven't read any of the Point One series so far, but it sounds interesting. Marvel needs to do something to "even the odds" with DC following the new 52. Maybe this will be it?
