Marvel Gives Unprecedented Retailers Incentive for Point One

Michael Wirth 10/20/2011 Reviews 3 Comments

With Marvel’s new Point One issue, slated for a release in early November, being so integral to the publisher’s character and story development throughout 2012, it would be in their best interest to ensure that retailers have enough copies for everyone. However, the incentive that they have planned for retailers is beyond what anyone would expect. In the news released today, Marvel had this to say:

No fan can afford to miss November’s Point One, all new 64 page comic kicking off the biggest super hero stories of 2012! To ensure all retailers have enough stock to meet anticipated demand over the next year, Marvel will provide all retailers with an additional 100% of their orders for Point One (excluding incentive inked variant cover) at no additional cost (excluding shipping).

“With Point One, we’ve created something very special by pulling together our top talent to provide short entry points to all of our 2012 launches that will have fans buzzing for more,” said SVP of Sales David Gabriel. “Point One will be a great marketing tool for retailers and a great read for fans.  We just want to make sure everyone is well stocked with over 120,000 copies of this book in stores for excited readers.”

It’s Coming…and it all begins with Point One in November!

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but that sounds like Marvel will be doubling retailer orders of Point One at no additional cost. That is absolutely huge. Allowing retailers to order that many copies of the issue will ensure that it gets into the hands of as many people as possible. It’s clear that Marvel really believes in this book that they are so willing to stand behind it.

And honestly, they should be. With what we’ve seen so far, there are a lot of great openings to some big changes happening next year. With the return of both the Scarlet Spider and the Phoenix force, 2012 will be a huge year for the comic industry, and for Marvel in particular. I cannot wait for this book to hit the stands.

this also means that if it fails, only got to wait a month before you can buy them for a buck

A comic shop near me is already offering this issue for half price right off the bat. So at least some places are passing this incentive along to fans.

Good idea on a marketing standpoint, but I was never a fan of Marvel's point one series.
