Marvel Comics Announces New Dexter Series

Nick Furious 11/14/2012 ZDONOTUSE

Marvel Comics will be bringing everyone’s favorite serial killer to a brand new medium.  This February New York Times Best Selling Author Jeff Lindsay will be doing a Dexter miniseries based off the hit Showtime series.  If you follow Dexter on a regular basis or are a big fan of the show, you probably know this isn’t the first time Dexter Morgan has been shown in another format other than live-action.  Showtime did a number of webisodes called Dexter Early Cuts, which looks into the very early life of Dexter Morgan.  No Early Cuts Announced for this season, so why not do the next best thing; do a comic series.  Here is the official press release:

Marvel Announces All-New DEXTER Comic Book Series

Series Creator Jeff Lindsay Brings Dexter to Comics for The First Time in February 2013

New York, NY—November 14th, 2012–Dexter Morgan is s skilled forensic blood spatter expert with the Miami police department but he’s also the city’s friendly neighborhood crime-fighting serial killer who has to face his greatest challenge yet—a high school reunion! Dexter #1 (of 5), from series creator & New York Times best-selling Jeff Lindsay and artist Dalibor Talajic (Deadpool), brings fans the very first comic book featuring everyone’s favorite psychopath, Dexter. While keeping his Dark Passenger’s bloodlust–his inner demon–under control,  Dexter must stop the latest murderous threat to Miami…the Skid Row Slasher. As this new menace racks up a body count to rival that of Dexter, can  Miami’s “darkest” hero save the day and keep his cover intact as a normal, well-adjusted member of society?

“Marvel Comics has always been a place where I felt at home. It has been a very important part of my life, and has always been a wellspring of creative and relevant ideas,” says Jeff Lindsay. “I feel like I’m coming home. It is a huge thrill for me to bring Dexter into this very special pantheon.”

The character of Dexter Morgan debuted in 2004’s Dily’s Award-winning Darkly Dreaming Dexter and has since appeared in five subsequent novels, with the seventh novel, Dexter’s Debut, scheduled for release in 2013. Marvels’ Dexter #1 marks the first time a story in the novels’ continuity has been presented in the comic book format.

Dexter is a perfect fit for comics, bringing an exciting cast of layered characters together with gripping, visually arresting stories ” said Ruwan Jayatilleke, Associate Publisher & SVP, Marvel Entertainment. “It’s an honor for Marvel to work with a lauded author such as Jeff Lindsay, whose ability to both horrify and move an audience is unparalleled. Fans of Dexter will be thrilled by this new story that fits seamlessly into the world they already know.”

This February, join Dexter and his Dark Passenger in an all-new story from creator Jeff Lindsay in Dexter #1 (of 5), available in comic shops everywhere!

I may be dreaming here but I could have sworn Marvel said something about a dexter comic series some time back?

I vaguely remember that as well… Maybe just wishful thinking?

This could be really good. I dig the artwork on the cover. I hope the interiors look just as good. I def think this character can work well in the comic book setting.

Been watching Dexter and really like the first couple seasons. Still watching it but not as enthralled with seasons after that as much. Would like to see comic explore more earlier Dexter pre marriage, etc that would be cool.

I'll be honest, I never made it past the first season. This is not for lack of enjoyment of the show, but simply lack of hours in the day. Too many shows, too little time…

Is it just me or is this kinda sick for a Marvel cover?

I'm glad Marvel is taking on more TV shows. They have so much talent at their disposal. Why not right?

I am crazy excited about this. I agree, it'll be a gritty one for Marvel but a good choice.
