Marvel And ABC Bring Richard Castle To Comics

Marvel and ABC announced today (May 16, 2011) that they are collaborating on a graphic novel inspired by the network’s series Castle. Rather than serving as a simple adaptation of the show, the story, titled “Richard Castle’s Deadly Storm”, will instead follow the character Derrick Storm, star of a series of novels attributed to series lead character Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion).

For those unfamiliar with the series, it follows mystery writer Richard Castle as he works alongside Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) and her colleagues at the NYPD, solving murders in the course of researching his future novels. Prior to the start of this arrangement, however, Castle had already achieved a degree of fame for a series of novels chronicling the exploits of one Derrick Storm.

While this is not the first such work to be based upon the show (the novels Heat Wave and Naked Heat, as well as the soon to be released Heat Rises have all ostensibly been written by Castle during the course of the series), it is the first to feature the Derrick Storm character, as well as the first to be produced in the comic book medium. The graphic novel will be written by Brian Michael Bendis and Kelly Sue DeConnick, with art by Lan Medina. It is set to go on sale at the end of September.

See the press release for more details.
