Kapow! Comic Con continues to gear up to be an almighty event with the announcement of the inaugural Stan Lee Awards. Featuring a wide range of nominees from all walks of comic books and hand picked by a panel of notable comic book fans, the competition looks set to be fierce! Here’s what Kapow! had to say for themselves:

THE STAN LEE AWARDS NOMINATIONS ARE IN! LET THE VOTING COMMENCE…

London KAPOW! COMIC CON, is hosting the first annual Stan Lee Awards on Saturday 9th April, and the list of nominations is now in! Compiled by a variety of expert judges from the world of comics, movies, TV, gaming, publishing and entertainment – the shortlist of nominations is now open to public vote at www.kapowcomiccon.com/awards.

KAPOW! is taking place at the London Business Design Centre on 9th & 10th April 2011, and visitors will be amongst the first in the world to get an exclusive look at various upcoming comics, games, movie blockbusters and hit TV shows from the biggest publishers and studios in the world.

Stan Lee is honoured to have these awards in his name, explaining “this is a fantastic platform to reward the cream of comic book talent for all their creativity and imagination throughout 2010, which has brought us so much entertainment and inspiration” and explains that having an awards show in his honour has made him feel like “a living Oscar”.

The Walking Dead finds itself up for four nominations within the 12 categories, including Best Writer and Man of the Year for creator Robert Kirkman, plus Best Series for the comics and Best TV Show. The Best Hero category looks set to be a tough battle between Iron Man, Green Lantern, Batman and Scott Pilgrim, whilst the category for Best Film looks like an equally competitive category with Inception, Scott Pilgrim, Iron Man 2 and Kick-Ass all receiving nominations. The full list of nominations is now live on the Kapow! website and voting will close on Friday 4th March 2011.

The announced comic guest list is unrivalled, and includes many creators who haven’t attended UK conventions in almost 20 years. Jonathan Ross, Frankie Boyle, Stewart Lee and Noel Clarke, who all contribute to UK news stand magazine CLiNT, will be taking part in panel discussions. John Romita Jr. (Kick-Ass), Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), Frank Quitely (Batman), Leinil Yu (Secret Invasion), Bryan Hitch (The Ultimates, The Authority) Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Civil War) and many, many more will all be signing autographs, speaking on panels and giving exclusive previews of upcoming works.

As well as the fantastic guest list, panel exclusives, signing and portfolio reviews, huge US publishers and Hollywood agents CAA will be on the look-out for the next big thing in comics. Plus Jonathan Ross will be hosting a Comic Pros vs. Fans Game Show and visitors will be treated to a screening of an upcoming superhero movie Movie X before its release later this year. Fans will not know which blockbuster this will be until the opening credits roll!

The film and TV guest list will be announced on the Kapow! website on 14th February 2011, this is a star-studded line up to reflect the excitement and the talent involved in the biggest year for comic book movies so far.
