Justice League of America to Return in 2013

Simon Peter Curran 08/26/2012 Reviews

It emerged today at Fan Expo Canada that DC would publishing a second Justice League title in the early months of 2013. A short while back on Free Comic Book Day, DC ended their preview offering with an image that features many of its heroes battling each other, the Justice League of Earth One could be seen duking it out with many heroes other characters including Black Adam, Dead Man, “Baz” the Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Hawkman and The Atom. But little explanation followed, apart from the information that it would be part of DC’s upcoming Trinity War storyline.

Those characters return in an image released by DC today at Fan Expo, along with the announcement that Justice League of America would return in 2013 with the creative team of Geoff Johns and David Finch. According to DC’s blog, the title will feature the characters that were seen battling the Justice League in the FCBD image along with Catwoman, Star Girl, Vibe, Katana and Martian Manhunter.

Geoff Johns offered some remarks about the future title in an interview with MTV Geek:

Justice League of America“This is a very different kind of team book. On first glance, people might think the heroes of the ‘Justice League of America’ stand in the shadows of Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League, but Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, the new Green Lantern, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman and Catwoman thrive in the shadows. They’re underdogs who have everything to prove and something to lose. They’re a team of unlikely heroes who will help one another discover they’re as A-List as anybody — yes, even Vibe. Though getting there won’t be easy. Why they’re formed, why each member joins, what they’re after and who the society of villains is they’re trying to take apart will all be clear in the first issue when it hits early 2013. David and I are really focused on delving deep into what it’s like to not be a member of the big seven and why, sometimes, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”

The new teams first arc will focus on the Secret Society of Super Villains. Justice League of America is set to arrive in early 2013.

What do you think about this decision? Do we need another Justice League title? Since the way the Earth 2 title is building up to a team dynamic, do you think it may be too much? Sound off in the comments section below or tweet us @ComicBooked!

Anything that brings Courtney back is something I can get behind, and with Geoff at the helm, Ollie and Carter will finally be written well in the New 52.
