Jupiter Ascending – Official Trailer 2

Derreck Mayer 03/27/2014 Movies and TV

The Wackowski siblings are bringing us a new sci-fi vision, Jupiter Ascending. IMDB summarizes the film as follows:

In the future, a young destitute human woman gets targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe, and begins her destiny to finish the Queen’s reign.

The film stars Mila Kunis as Jupiter Jones and Channing Tatum as Caine. They are joined by Douglas Booth (Noah) and Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones). The new film from the duo that brought us The Matrix trilogy truly looks spectacular from a strictly visual perspective. The CGI is sharp and dazzling, but reminds me of their last major film, Cloud Atlas. This is not necessarily a negative thing. I, for one, enjoyed Cloud Atlas, especially from a special effects and design point of view.

As far as the story goes, if I were to just go off the trailer (which is always risky), the film looks a bit disjointed. Earth resides in a much bigger universe, a la Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but apparently one of the universe’s royalty lives on Earth and is totally unaware of her heritage. It certainly sounds like a familiar general plot put in a sci-fi heavy context. I imagine we’ll see a lot of Mila and Channing running throughout Jupiter Ascending, while incredibly technologically advanced aliens fail to catch them.

Jupiter Ascending is slated to hit theaters in North America on July 18th, 2014 and is not yet rated. While it’s been written by Andy and Lana Wachowski, they are also directing this feature, much as they have with their previous films.

About The Author

I was born in Philadelphia, PA but grew up southwest of Kansas City. At heart, I'm a nerd. My earliest memories are watching Star Trek: TNG with my dad and I even named my car the Enterprise (vanity plate and all). You can find my Star Trek personality at @TheStarTrekDude on twitter as well. I love science fiction and super heroes. I'm currently reading several DC The New 52 comic book series including Batman and Green Lantern. Green Lantern is my favorite super hero and want to be when I grow up. I'm always looking for something new, so don't hesitate to suggest a new comic book series for me, especially things outside of the DC universe!
