JLI Creators Re-United for Justice League 3000!

Kelly Cassidy 06/17/2013 News, Reviews

I made a comment on a forum earlier today that any book that brought back the original Justice League International creators of Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire would have an instant reader in me and I am not alone. I said this as part of a discussion on whether one reads comics for the story or the art and I said both with an even 50/50 split. I had no clue there was this news on the horizon but now that it’s out… Well, a 38-year old man sitting in his chair at work pumping the air in excitement is not something you tend to see in a normal workplace when talking about comic books (unless you work in the DC or Marvel offices, I suppose). But the news is out and was released exclusively to CBR that the JLI trio is once again together on a Justice League book – Justice League 3000! I had thought that maybe DC would bring them back to a new version of JLI after its rather abrupt ending in the New 52, but this provides ton more possibilities!

Very little has been revealed about the title yet, although based on character designs of Howard Porter it’s safe to say that the core team remains the same – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash – albeit advanced for the year 3000. Looking at the pictures of the team, we may be able to identify some potential returns of some characters… A red-headed Flash – perhaps the return of Wally West to the franchise? A Superman looking character but without the traditional S emblem – maybe someone from Krypton but not of the House of El? (We did see that Brainiac did have a bunch of bottle cities in recent pages of Threshold, also by Giffen, so maybe…) A red and black Batman suit, with a color scheme similar to that of Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond… Wonder Woman has a different weapon and there’s not much I can say looking at this GL at this time but… interesting!

So yeah, I’m excited. I’m hoping this series lasts longer than some of Giffen’s other titles in the New 52, but with this team together again I have no doubt it will!

Looks fun… But seriously, when is DC going to figure out that anything with Giffen's name attached to it spells instant cancellation? Sigh…

I would tend to agree, except when it comes to this trio together. Although Giffen is doing a great job on Masters of the Universe!
