Sony Online Entertainment announced the coming of a Green Lantern-themed expansion pack for the popular MMORPG, DC Universe Online. The expansion will be sub-titled Fight For The Light and include a number of power-ups, available for both heroes and villains. Also included in the pack are a host of recognizable Lantern characters, like Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner.
Most notably, however, will be the new usable powerset available to players, “Light.” The Light powers will differ depending on your disposition; heroes can use the Light powers to exact their will on enemies, while villains will be able to take advantage of the fear powers, a la Sinestro and the Sinestro Corps. Using the light powers, players manifest “constructs”, each with their own set of combos, rules and abilities. It will certainly be interesting to see how these constructs can be used in game, and also how they affect team play.
Of course, an expansion wouldn’t be an expansion if it didn’t introduce some new playable areas. “Fight For the Light” will do just that, granting players access to S.T.A.R. Labs, Coast City, and the home planet of the Green Lantern Corps, Oa. Each area has its own villains and objectives, including Brainiac, Lyssa Drak, and the Red Lantern Corps.
This expansion will guarantee the inclusion of Green, Yellow, and Red Lanterns, but happily, Sony has stated their desire to expand off to include the rest of the spectrum, though they have not stated a timeframe. Also, no word has been given whether Dex-Starr makes an appearance, but my fingers are tightly crossed.
No official release date has been given for Fight For The Light, though speculation places it at late summer/early fall of this year. It will be available for Playstation 3 and PC versions of the game and retail at $9.99.
