“Gotham this is your only warning…”
The first chilling words from Scarecrow, who we haven’t seen since Arkham Asylum. In Arkham Knight, the fourth installment in the Arkham series of Batman Games, he returns in a big way. There are a lot of things about this trailer that excite, and a few that leave me feeling just a bit uneasy. First, we see several villains, and we also hear Scarecrow. The problem is, we don’t see anyone new. With a next gen title, I was hoping to see a much larger cast, rogues gallery and bat-family alike.
I loved the visuals, especially the exit for the Batmobile from the Batcave. Let’s talk about the Batmobile for a second. This feature is supposed to be the biggest new feature in the game. The Batman that they have created in the three previous games has had full mobility without the need for his vehicles. This says one of two things for me; either they are implementing a complex mechanic in the game that I will end up not using unless they force me to, or they have created such a large and dynamic Gotham, that the use of a car will not be a frivolous or useless tool. In Rocksteady we trust.
The trailer also showcases another interesting addition to the mechanics of the game. While in the air, batman can now employ the use of his gadgets. That isn’t all. Batman can now chain stealth takedowns, as long as none of the targets are looking at him.
Confirmed, as you can see, are Two-Face, Penguin, Harley Quinn, Riddler, and Scarecrow. Since the release of the trailer we have one more confirmed villain. The mysterious Arkham Knight. We are told that this character is one hundred percent original. I am worried that we won’t get our side stories from Arkham City concluded. What about Azreal? Where did Hush go? Will we get yet ANOTHER visit from Mr. Freeze? Will the detective mode be the new, and frankly, more interesting mode from Arkham Origins? Only time will tell.
