“They created me, but they cannot control me.”

The latest trailer for the upcoming movie Ghost in the Shell has been released. Shown above, this latest release for the upcoming Paramount Pictures film shows us just who Major (Scarlett Johansson) will be up against for the film.

Ghost in the Shell seemingly brings together the all best of the long-running franchise, from its manga roots, to the 1995 Mamoru Oshii animated film to the hit 1997 video game.  From this latest and the previous trailers you can see scenes clearly inspired by, and directly lifted from, that amazing source material.

The original manga series was first published in Japan in 1989.  In Japan, Ghost in the Shell was known as “Mobile Armored Riot Police” and was both written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. The book took the “Ghost in the Shell” subtitle to the main even as it was brought to the United States by Kodansha USA and Dark Horse Comics.  Designed by Shirow, the video game was released in 1997 to PlayStation and received many positive critical reviews for gameplay and cinematography.

The latest film, releasing on March 31st 2017 is directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Jamie Moss with credit to Shirow himself. The movie is produced by Avi Arad and Steven Paul. The film stars Scarlett Johansson as The Major, Michael Pitt as Kuza, Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke Aramaki and Pilou Asbaek as Batou.
