If you’re like me, you love comics.  You love them so much that Wednesday is your favorite day of the week.  You love them so much; you wish they were your job. Well Andy Schmidt, former Senior Editor at IDW Publishing, former Editor at Marvel Comics, and comics writer wants to help make that dream a reality.   He wants to help you get some Comics Experience.  And he’s willing to come to you to help you get it.

Well that is if you are attending New York Comic Con this October 13th thru the 16th at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

Andy will moderating Buddy Scalera’s Comic Book School panel for aspiring writers, Writing: Story Structure on Friday October 14, 3:45-4:45 in Room 1A03.  Joining Andy on the panel are Christos Gage, (Angel of Faith,  X-Men) Daniel Way, (Venom, Deadpool) David Hine, (Batman and Robin, Spawn) and Jimmy Palmiotti (All-Star Western, Power Girl).  Schmidt has long been involved with teaching folks how to write, draw, color and letter comics through Comics Experience, a one-stop website he founded.

Of course, if you don’t happen to be the Greater New York City area this weekend, you could always check out video from the Comics Experience Writing for Comics panel which took place this past spring at the 2011 Geek Speak Super Show in Reading, PA.  Schmidt, along with panelists Rob Anderson, Fred Van Lente, Drew Gaska, and Bryan J.L. Glass discuss topics like what is a story, planning/outlining your stories, collaborating with artists, methods for breaking down panels and dialogue, and more!  The panel is introduced by Comics Experience alum and Creators Workshop member, Joe Sergi

The writer’s panel is just one of many panels the Buddy line of Comic Book School panels that are taking place at NYCC this year.  See the full details on the NYCC website, right here,

Comics Experience not only offers online classes in all facets of Comic Book production, but also has guest bloggers from the comic industry and Comic Experience Alums, many of which will be in attendance in the Small Press area of Comic Con such as Dan Rivera and Jeff Marsick, along with Comic Experience “Introduction to Comic Book Art“instructor Robert Atkins (GI Joe, Snake Eyes, Hero for Hire).

Besides offering live online classes, like the” Introduction to Comic Book Writing” which begins its next 6 week session this coming January, there is also the  Comic Creators Workshop,  an online community made up of writers, artists, and other, sharing and critiquing each other’s work, along with professional comic writers, editors, and artists, like Schmidt, Atkins, colorist Chris Sotomayor and writer/artist/editor John Barber.  Also included in the workshop are the once monthly Live Sessions, which meet online and covers industry topics in an in-depth fashion and often feature guests from across the comics industry.

Comics Experience was founded in 2007 by Andy Schmidt. Every course he develops is one he WISHED had been available when he was trying to break into comics 10 years ago.

Their mission is to provide the best possible, most comprehensive courses, available in the world that are specific to comics and taught by working professionals who love teaching.
